I would like to learn how to sew!

I have a couple of things that I wish I knew how to do. One of them is sewing. I've decided to finally start looking for some tutorials, so I need your help :) If you have any tutorial on your blog, please leave your links below. If you have seen any tutorial on Pinterest, I would like to take a look at them so please, guide me to any good sewing board that you know of :)

Why do I want to learn how to sew?

• I would like to be able to make some basic fixes to my own clothes! I want to be able to fix my jeans and not to wait until someone else can fix them.

• I would LOVE to be able to make clothes for me... Am I asking for too much as a begginer? Lol. It would be really nice if I could make myself some cute blouses. I don't know... maybe I have some kind of a dream to be a desinger lol.

• I could make a gift for a friend! How nice it would be to received something just especially made for you? I know I would love that!

• It would be another great hubby! As a beader, I'm always trying to make new jewelry designs. So I know this would be a new great way to be entertained.

• and (the last thing, I promise!) I would like to be able to make things like this:

Maybe I should begin with this, right? :P

Well, that's it! I'm just looking for a little help. Oh! I almost forgot, you can now find me on Google+! I finally made an account today :)

Thanks everyone! Hope you are enjoying the weekend ;)

  5. I am so (or should that be sew - teehee) with you!! I even picked up my grandma's little sewing machine after she passed to give it a go ... I had no clue it wouldn't be as plug and play like my phone!! I am now saving for a better machine, and plan on taking classes at the local craft shop, because darnit! I want to MAKE stuff.

    1. haha I want to make stuff too!! I want some dresses, blouses, I don't know... anything! I have to decide because I'm not sure if I want to use my mom's sewing machine, or if I should get a new one. Hmm, I think I'm going with a new one! Anyway, when the time comes, I hope you enjoy your classes! :) I wish I knew a place to take classes as well.

  6. I'm pretty new to sewing also. I don't know if you are looking for actual "how to sew" tutorials but Merrick, from Merricks Art is the BEST at sewing/refashioning and she has some really awesome tutorials. You should deifitely check her out if you haven't yet :)

  7. Best advice, get some fabric and practice, practice, practice! Go slow, especially with jeans! I have broken too many needles because while first learning to sew I would go too quickly! And if you mess up, that is what the seam ripper is for! ;)

Good luck and can't wait to see some of the stuff you make or alter/refashion!

  8. Are you looking to learn how to sew on a machine or hand sew? You should know both, but definitely how to hand sew before machine sew. A blouse is pretty ambitious. That's a whole lot of cutting and measuring and sewing perfectly. I'd practice making some skirts first. I practiced when I was younger by making doll skirts-- less fabric being used if you mess up. That helps you to learn how to cut and sew straight and learn the basics on a machine. I used them on my own dolls, but I'm guessing you're out of that stage so I'm sure a little girl in your life would love it. One of my goals this month is actually to sew a skirt so if I do and think of it I'll try to write a post on it!

    1. I want to learn how to sew in both ways, on a machine and by hand. I know I'm asking too much lol but, someday, I'll like to make some blouses and dresses for myself :) Thanks so much for your tips! I'll definitely practice with just basic stuff. I would love to see that post if you do it ;) Thanks again!!

  9. I love to sew, I just don't make the time for it like I should. I tend to get distracted with other things... You're going to love it!
