Hmmm, well, what else can I say other than “WOW!”? Well, a lot of things actually (and all of them good). This book was an amazing read! I definitely feel like this was the best read of 2020. “Why?” you may ask-and I’m here to tell you.
From the get-go, you can tell how strong Ijeoma Oluo is. Not just because of her life experiences explained in the text, but because of the felt need and bravery to express difficult, yet necessary topics. When I say “need”, I mean the emphasis on the willingness and desire of having a difficult conversation regarding race.
This book was created to educate people who are not necessarily part of the black community but are open to having a conversation. This book was also created for the people who need a push into being open-minded enough to have a dialogue about race. A continuous dialogue. It was created with the intention for people to dare have a difficult conversation, regardless of the errors one might make along the way, as the title alludes. Also, this book serves as a guide to clear up some concepts or answer some questions people who are not part of the black community may have.
Throughout my life, I’ve noticed that people prefer to disregard issues instead of facing them-and whether we like it or not, that conduct is learned and applied in our daily lives-and it shouldn’t be. This book is a wake up call, with anecdotes from the author to further support every argument presented.
After reading this book, I’d dare to even say that this book is a necessary read-for the betterment of ourselves and for the betterment of the world as a whole.
Have the conversation about race. If you do, you will undoubtedly make mistakes, but at least you’re facing the situation and not choosing to ignore it. That is what will make the difference.

📚♡------♡📚Hmmm, bueno, ¿qué más puedo decir además de "¡WOW!"? Bueno, muchas cosas en realidad (y todas buenas). ¡Este libro fue una lectura increíble! Definitivamente siento que esta fue la mejor lectura de 2020. Se puede estar actualmente preguntando "¿Por qué?"-y estoy aquí para contestar esa duda.
Desde el primer momento, puede saber qué tan fuerte es Ijeoma Oluo. No solo por sus experiencias de vida explicadas en el texto, sino por la necesidad y la valentía que siente de expresar temas difíciles pero necesarios. Cuando digo que sintió la necesidad, me refiero al énfasis del deseo de tener una conversación difícil sobre la raza.
Este libro fue creado para educar a las personas que no son necesariamente parte de la comunidad negra, pero que están abiertas a tener una conversación. Este libro también fue creado para las personas que necesitan un impulso para tener la mente lo suficientemente abierta como para tener un diálogo sobre la raza. Un diálogo continuo. Fue creado con la intención de que las personas se atrevan a tener una conversación difícil, independientemente de los errores que se puedan cometer en el proceso, como alude el título. Además, este libro sirve como guía para aclarar algunos conceptos o responder algunas preguntas que puedan tener personas que no forman parte de la comunidad negra.
A lo largo de mi vida, he notado que la gente prefiere ignorar los problemas en lugar de enfrentarlos, y nos guste o no, esa conducta se aprende y se aplica en nuestra vida diaria, y no debería ser así. Este libro es una llamada de atención, con anécdotas de la autora para respaldar aún más cada argumento que presenta.
Después de leer este libro, me atrevería a decir que es una lectura necesaria, para el mejoramiento de nosotros mismos y para el mejoramiento del mundo en general.
Tenga la conversación sobre la raza. Si lo hace, indudablemente cometerá errores, pero al menos se enfrenta a la situación y no elige ignorarla. Eso es lo que marcará la diferencia.
